The Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information and services provided by IPPF Africa Region continue to grow. In 2020, IPPF delivered 105 million sexual and reproductive health services within Sub-Saharan Africa to 33 million people whom 90% are vulnerable population, 89% are women and girls, and 55% are young people.
In addition, since its commitment to the IPPF 2016-2022 Strategic Framework, IPPFAR has sustained it position as the biggest contributor to SRH services in the Federation, moving from 58 percent in 2016 to 52 percent in 2017 to 48 percent in three consecutive years (2018-2019-2020). Young people are a key target population of the organization, and receive over 43 percent of our services annually. In 2020, IPPFAR reached its highest number of Couple Years of Protection (14.6 million CYP) resulting, averting 960,000 unsafe abortions, 2.8 million unintended pregnancies and 5.4 million DALYs.
Further, 14 of our African Member Associations (Benin, Botswana, Mauritius, Niger, Seychelles, Togo, Uganda, Zimbabwe) successfully contributed to positive legislative changes in support of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
