Abidjan, 10 November 2021 - From 2 to 10 November 2021, a high-level mission from the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) Africa Regional Office visited Côte d'Ivoire. Led by its Regional Director, Ms. Marie-Evelyne Pétrus-Barry, the main objective of the mission was to meet with Ivorian authorities and to discuss the project of opening a sub-regional office for West and Central Africa in Abidjan.
IPPF's Regional Office, based in Nairobi, Kenya, is an international human rights organization focusing on family planning and reproductive health. It is present in 39 countries in the sub-Saharan African region, including Côte d'Ivoire, through locally based member associations. It represents the largest network of associations dedicated to women's rights and family planning in Africa. In Côte d'Ivoire, the Association Ivoirienne pour le Bien-Être Familial (AIBEF) is IPPF's member association.
Together with AIBEF officials, the IPPF delegation met successively with the Minister Delegate to the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and the Diaspora; Alcide DJEDJE; the Minister for Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty, Mrs Myss Belmonde DOGO; the Minister for Women, the Family and the Child, Mrs Nassénéba TOURÉ; the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and the Diaspora, Mrs Kandia KAMISSOKO CAMARA and finally, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Mr Patrick Jérôme ACHI. Ivorian officials praised IPPF's work in sexual and reproductive health and expressed their enthusiasm to welcome the new office in Côte d'Ivoire. An agreement in principle was given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and the Diaspora, Mrs. Kandia Kamissoko Camara and the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Mr. Patrick Jérôme ACHI, while waiting for the different teams to formalize the administrative steps of the installation of the new office.
