African Citizens Initiative
A Resilient Generation for the Africa We Want
In January 2015, African Heads of State signed Agenda 2063, a call for action to all segments of African society to work together to build a prosperous and united Africa based on shared values and a common destiny.
Part of a new African Renaissance, the Africa Union’s Agenda 2063 inspires all citizens to build “The Africa We Want.” It calls for changes in attitudes and mindsets to instill a set of African values that include: discipline, focus, honesty, integrity, transparency, hard work and love for Africa and its people. Agenda 2063 aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, which are at the heart of the UN Agenda 2030.
IPPF Africa Region (IPPFAR), with 42 National Members Associations, is contributing to the achievement of these global and continental goals. Over the past six decades, IPPFAR has been providing quality health information and care to the vulnerable, underserved and hard to reach. Our work directly supports Aspiration 6 of Agenda 2063 and Sustainable Development Goals 3, 5, and 10 .
Every year, our Member Associations help millions of poor and vulnerable people prevent unsafe childbirth, unsafe sex, unsafe abortion, STI-related illnesses and HIV-related stigma and discrimination. We serve our clients without concern for borders, religions, races or ethnicities. Together, we fight for local, national and global policies which recognize a fundamental human right - the right to sexual and reproductive health services.
IPPFAR is committed to achieving the ambitious goals set out in IPPF’s Strategic Framework 2016-2022: to double service delivery by 2022. We will mobilize our impressive network of 39,000 volunteers to join the African Citizens Initiative for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, a peer-topeer fundraising program. Our aim is to inspire and empower individuals across the region to invest in health services and education programs that keep women, girls, children and families safe, healthy and prosperous. Our theme is “A Resilient Generation for the Africa We Want.”
Health is the foundation of life. IPPFAR envisions a world where all people are free to make choices about their wellbeing without discrimination. With your help, we will achieve this vision and improve the lives of women, young persons, men and especially vulnerable people on our continent by 2022.
