While war or conflict is known to leave death, hunger and homeless people in its wake, one thing that is rarely talked about is its effect on sexual violations and the lack of access to reproductive health services for women and young girls during conflict.

The closest many organizations and the media have come to address this issue is when highlighting rape cases happening in conflict hot-spots across Africa. In Rwanda, for instance, the revelation that out of the 80 percent of the women who were raped during the genocide period, 17 percent of them contracted HIV, has received immense media courage.
